Seeking Candidates for Maynard Country Club Planning Committee

The Maynard Board of Selectmen is seeking candidates for the Maynard Country Club Planning Committee. Please submit a letter of interest including any talents, skill sets or expertise which you feel will be beneficial to the objectives of this endeavor. All applicants should be submitted to dgavin@townofmaynard.net (if you have previously expressed interest, please re-submit in letter form) by no later than February 3, 2012.   (Please read details of this committee after the break.)

Mission:  To assess the sensibility of alternatives and or present uses of the Maynard Country Club. All uses must be consistent and allowable under the Community Preservation Act.  The goal is to develop and suggest models and utilization of the “property” which enhance the character and vitality of the Maynard in an all inclusive manner.

Objectives:

Develop a thorough and complete understanding of the property’s characteristics including, but not limited to location, size, shape, natural features, amenities and history. Relevant to the exercise will be current operating situation, revenues, legal limitations, physical and practical constraints.  The committee is encouraged to consider all relevant issues related to its use;

Maintain an awareness of the operating status and maintenance issues of the property while under private management.  This management will be governed by contract and said contract will be managed by the Board of Selectmen administrative office.  Any concerns which arise should be brought to the attention of the Town Administrator, not addressed directly with the contractor.

Evaluate the various recreation, open space, entertainment, cultural, athletic, housing, alternative energy, resource, business, revenue and other opportunities with potential at the property and that are consistent with the mission, to determine the feasibility of such activities at the property.

Create a management strategy for future use consistent with any proposal or plan presented.  Any strategy for reuse should seek a revenue neutral or self sufficient model if possible.

Initiate a fully public and transparent process whereby residents, businesses, town boards and committees, and interested organizations can provide input and receive regular updates and communications about the progress of the committee.

Provide a draft and final report for acceptance by the 2013 Annual Town Meeting which includes preferred recommendations for action by the Board of Selectmen. Such Report shall summarize the process, timeline, input received, alternatives evaluated, rational for the recommendations, management structure, revenue potential, benefits and costs.

Task Force structure

Due to the scale of this task, it is important that the Task Force have the capacity to break out into sub-groups and undertake some rather large scale tasks within the subgroups.  Standing commissions, boards and committees will be invited into the process to provide input by the Task Force.  This is a citizen driven process, with facilitation from the town.

Local Residents: 15 residents will be appointed.  The final composition will seek to have a diverse cross section of experiences, both communal and professional.  The Board of Selectmen will accept applicants and make appointments to the Maynard Country Club Planning Committee.

Town staff will be available for technical expertise and input, as needed and requested through the Board of Selectmen Office.
