The woods associated with the Maynard School Campus are owned by the Town of Maynard School Department, Board of Selectmen, and Recreation Department. The rear of the woods abuts the Assabet River Wildlife Refuge. The woods are criss-crossed with a network of trails. Some trails are marked with blazes and are maintained by high school students involved in Project Adventure; others have minimal or no markings.
These woods hold a variety of ecosystems, so a diversity of trees, shrubs, mushrooms, and wildflowers can be found. There are also old stonewalls from the old Evelith Farm. Some trails pass through extensive blueberry patches, by small ponds, and cross a small brook (on an old log bridge). |
