Now in its 11th year, Maynard’s annual cleanup is a community event during which residents remove litter from the roadsides and public lands to help improve the appearance of our town.
The 2008 cleanup is scheduled to run.
For the third year, the cleanup with begin with Opening Day events, one of which is asking all residents, merchants, and community groups to make sure that the area around their property is litter-free before 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 19. We ask that the town lead by example and ensure that the area around town hall is clear of litter by that morning. This is an effort to continue to educate people that if everyone takes care of even just their own area, it makes a huge difference in the cleanliness of our town.
Volunteers who wish to clean up public areas will be able to register and obtain yellow bags that week from the Board of Health office during business hours Tuesday to Friday and downtown from volunteers on the first, and possibly second, Saturday morning. The Board of Health will coordinate with the trash hauler, so that participants can place their yellow bags out free of charge on their regular trash pick up day. We will make arrangements with the Department of Public Works (DPW) for pick up at any public areas where large quantities of metal or tires are collected.
These dates and arrangements have been reviewed with Jerry Collins at the Board of Health and Paul Camilli at the DPW.
This year’s cleanup will be organized by the Maynard Litter League. If you have any questions, I can be reached at 978-897-3156.
I thank you in advance for your anticipated support.
Sincerely,
Carol Leary
