Annual Town Meeting approved funding in May for the Green Sand Filtration Media Replacement Project
The Board of Selectmen just awarded the contract for this project to Kinsmen Corporation. It involves removing and disposing, replacing and regenerating the existing media in four green sand filtration tanks.
In laymen's terms this will allow the DPW to bring two of the Old Marlborough Road Wells back on line. Green Sand Filtration Media is a technical way of describing the process of installing new filtration sand that is necessary to remove iron and manganese.
Iron and manganese is the cause ofthe rusty water color you sometimes see in the water supply. Bringing this well online will help to protect both the quality of municipal water and the resource itself.
