DPW: Skilled Laborer

Full Time Position.   $20.52 – $23.10/Hour

The Town of Maynard Department of Public Works is accepting applications for the position of full time Skilled Laborer. This position operates light equipment and performs skilled manual work.  Responsibilities include operating equipment such as a pick-up truck, dump truck, participating in plowing and sanding roads, performing labor in the conducting road maintenance and drainage work, and various other assignments to support the maintenance of the Town’s highways, parks, and cemetery. Operates other equipment such as lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, chippers and chainsaws.

Perform labor incidental to the work of operating the assigned equipment; plow and sand roads; pave and maintain roads; conduct drainage work; perform tree work; maintain lawns and grounds.

Mow sides of roads as required; paint and repair guard rails; patch pot holes, install traffic and street signs; install and remove snow fencing; repair stone walls; clean catch basins; install and replace old drainage; provide traffic control as required; empty trash barrels.  Dig graves; assist in setting up burial services with funeral home; repair gravesites.

Minimum Training and Experience:

Ability to lift and carry weight of 25-50pounds, ability to work occasionally in poor weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or snow, combination of education and experience will be considered. This position requires a high school diploma and at least one (1) year job-related experience in construction or an equivalent combination of education and experience. License: Class A or B State of Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Class 2B Hoisting License is required.

COA Substitute Van Driver(s)

The Town of Maynard Council on Aging is seeking to hire a Substitute Van Driver to operate 8 & 12 passenger vans with wheelchair lifts. Driver will transport Maynard senior citizens over the age of 60 and disabled residents throughout Maynard. Assist passengers in and out of van, with wheelchair lift and securing passengers in seatbelts. Must be available on short notice to fill vacant shifts. Schedule/hours vary.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.  Ability to clean interior and exterior of van.  Ability to carry packages, groceries in and out of van for passengers and provide light assistance when necessary.  Working knowledge of the layout of the Town of Maynard.  Knowledge of general maintenance and upkeep of van.  Knowledge of Massachusetts driving rules and regulations. Basic technological skills are necessary including use of cell phone and tablet.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:  High School Diploma or equivalency. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required. CPR certification or willing to receive training.

Preferred Qualifications:  Two (2) years experience driving bus or passenger van.

Assistant Facilities Manager

The Town of Maynard, a municipality of 10,500 residents, is seeking an experienced and innovative Assistant Facilities Manager responsible for the effective maintenance and capital improvement of Town/School facilities.  The Assistant Facilities Manager will have responsibilities for all facility and maintenance staff and the needs of Town and school buildings as well as ancillary structures and space.

The Town portfolio includes:

  • 6 buildings of general government
  • 3 buildings of school administration and education
  • Town owned developed land and vacant/open/recreation space and other ancillary structures may be included.
