Reminder to Maynard Businesses about Radio Box Transition

REMINDER THAT THE MAYNARD FIRE DEPT. IS TRANSITIONING TO RADIO BOX TECHNOLOGY

Business owners whose businesses are currently being protected with a fire alarm system or system that sends a signal directly to the Maynard Fire Department. This system uses a telegraph system to send a signal to us indicating there may be a problem at your location. This system is a series of wired circuits strung through the community via utility poles. We are in the process of switching this system to a newer technology called the Warn/AES Intellinet which has already been installed. This system is newer technology that utilizes radio frequencies to notify a monitoring site of a problem in a building as opposed to utilizing the aforementioned utility pole wired system. Our reasons for making this switch at this time are multiple and include:

  • Long term maintenance costs for maintaining a wired system will eventually be eliminated
  • We are moving toward a more efficient model of dispatching by combining both the Fire and Police Dispatch centers into a single civilian based dispatch center and this will ease that transition with less confusion

We believe this new system will bring a more reliable and cost effective notification process to Maynard. In addition it will allow for an easier process for work to be done on your system as needed.

527 CMR requires your building to have a fire alarm system that is monitored to ensure the fire department is notified in as timely a manner as possible. Currently you pay a fee to the Town of Maynard in the amount of $200.00 annually to act as your monitoring service. Moving forward you will have a few options to ensure your building is still being monitored:

  • Option 1: You can have a system compatible with the Warn/AES Intllinet System that has been installed for the Town of Maynard and continue to have the Town of Maynard act as your monitoring agency for the same cost of $200.00 annually
  • Option 2: You can hire a third party vendor to act as your monitoring system

Effective July 1st, 2016, the Town of Maynard will no longer have the capability to continue monitoring your system as presently constituted. By this date you will need to have made a change in order for you to remain in compliance with 527 CMR.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding this process and I will answer your questions or put you in touch with someone that can.
