FINANCE DIRECTOR/TOWN ACCOUNTANT (Updated 04/01/23)

The Town of Maynard seeks a qualified, experienced, and highly motivated Finance Director to lead our finance team (Accounting, Assessing, and Treasury). Under general direction of the Town Administrator, the Finance Director also serves as the Town Accountant.

Responsible for compliance with all fiscal statutory requirements, supervise financial reporting and maintain the accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Monitors revenue, expenditures, and equity fund balances of all town funds. Serves as the key advisor in budgetary processes and provides support and guidance to town departments relative to accounting and regulatory compliance matters. Supervises the Treasury, Assessing, and Accounting departments.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field (Master’s preferred); seven (7) years increasingly responsible professional municipal accounting experience or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job required. Possession of Mass. Certified Governmental Accountant preferred, ability to obtain within a year required. Candidate must have in-depth understanding of GASB requirements for municipalities, working knowledge of Massachusetts municipal finance law, and proven ability to supervise others, manage projects, develop policies and meet deadlines. Three (3) or more years as a Town Accountant with strong supervisory experience preferred. The Town of Maynard is currently accepting applications for the position of Full Time Public Safety Dispatcher. Applicants should be able to communicate well, have a solid knowledge of computers and word processing, and the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a busy, noisy, and stressful environment. Applicants holding CJIS, APCO (or equivalent) and E-911 certifications and with previous public safety experience preferred, but not required. Applicants should be willing to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights, on a rotating schedule. This position is eligible for benefits. Previous training and experience will be taken into consideration. Additional benefits such as shift differentials, work wear allowance and educational incentives included.

Commuter VanVAN DRIVER PART-TIME - MAYNARD/ACTON COMMUTER SHUTTLE

Flexible - $20.00 per hour


We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of PT Commuter Shuttle Driver. The Maynard/Acton Commuter Shuttle Driver is responsible for operating an 8 or 12-passenger van with a wheelchair lift for the transportation of residents of Maynard and Acton to the South Acton Commuter Rail Station. The shuttle service is a fixed route with multiple stops in Maynard and Acton. Shifts are 3 hours each on average and run morning and evening, Monday thru Friday.


Applicants should have working knowledge of Massachusetts driving rules and regulations/working knowledge of the layout of the Town of Maynard is helpful. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary as well as basic technological skills including the use of a cell phone. High School Diploma or GED. Excellent safe driving record. Valid MA Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years’ experience driving a bus or passenger van.

CPR certification or willing to receive training.

Commuter VanVAN DRIVER PART-TIME - COUNCIL ON AGING SUBSTITUTE DRIVER

$20.00 PER HOUR


We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of PT/Substibute COA Van Driver to operate 8 & 12 passenger vans with wheelchair lifts. Driver will transport Maynard senior citizens over the age of 60 and disabled residents throughout Maynard. Job duties include assisting passengers in and out of van, operating a wheelchair lift and securing passengers in seatbelts.


Must have the ability to carry packages or groceries in and out of van for passengers and provide light assistance when necessary.   Working knowledge of the layout of the Town of Maynard is helpful.   Knowledge of Massachusetts driving rules and regulations is required.  Basic technological skills are necessary including use of cell phone and tablet as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

Minimum Entrance Requirements:  High School Diploma or equivalency. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required. CPR certification or willing to receive training.
