Cultural Council seeks grant applications. Oct 15th deadline.

The Maynard Cultural Council announced its annual grants cycle last week, with $5,200 in total funding available for applicants who submit proposals by Oct. 15. Area residents who want to fund art, science, or humanities-focused projects will be considered.

“Maynard’s reputation as a cultural hub is growing, and we’re encouraging a wide range of projects to apply for this year’s funding,” said Council Chair Jeff Swanberg.

The funds will be divided among qualifying Massachusetts residents and organizations whose work seeks to enhance the culture of Maynard. Past projects include a music series; a children’s outdoor learning initiative; and a program to help high school students create handmade books on the subject of violence against women.

To apply by the Oct. 15 deadline, applicants should go to https://mcc.smartsimple.com/ex/ex_Apppage.jsp?token=HAwJSR8GbVheQxBa.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council awards the annual grants to local cultural councils, who disperse the money to projects of their choosing. Last year was a record year in Maynard, with 53 total applicants and 13 projects funded. The Council aims to continue the town’s strong arts tradition and bolster a broad array of culture in Maynard.

“Our job is to help talented residents promote Maynard’s diverse culture,” said Council member Brad Matthews. “So, what is Maynard’s culture to you?”
