Between February and March, staff from Davey Tree will be conducting a survey of the Town’s public trees! In 2019, Maynard was awarded an Urban Forestry Grant from the Department of Conservation and Recreation to conduct a tree survey and produce a tree management plan.
The survey will include trees along public roads and streets, as well as trees on Town-owned property, including the schools and parks. Moriah Day, an Inventory Arborist Technician at Davey Tree with vast experience conducting tree inventories for municipalities, will be spending the next month collecting data on Town trees. Collection will occur Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. She will be collecting important information, such as location, size, species, condition, and risk level, which Davey Tree will use to create a database and Management Plan. The Management Plan will help the Town manage tree maintenance, identify and remove hazardous trees, and locate appropriate spots for new trees!
Interested in learning more? There will be an informative presentation by Davey Tree on February 11th, from 4:00 to 6:00pm in the Soup Campbell Room at Maynard Town Hall.
