In this, Maynard’s Sesquicentennial Year, the 150th anniversary of the founding of our town, the Maynard Historical Commission is pleased to tell you about its special plan for a professionally designed permanent Historical Marker showcasing the history, people and products of the Mill and to invite you to help support this project through a voluntary funding effort. The Historical Commission appreciates the support for the project from the many generous donors in the Maynard community.
Above is the current draft of the first three panels of the planned installation to be located close to the Mill complex at Ken Olsen Plaza. The completed marker will be approximately 12’ long with 4’ high panels. This Historical Marker will be the largest ever sponsored by the Commission and will graphically display the history of the Mill. The panels will tell the story of its beginnings, its booms and busts, its reinvention as Digital Equipment Corporation, and its current identity as a center for contemporary businesses. The story will focus on the people and products that made and continue to make the Mill the central enterprise in town.
