After serving the town for 85 years as a public school, the Fowler building on Summer Street was leased to ArtSpace Maynard in 2001 for $1/year. This ongoing relationship between the town and ArtSpace Maynard provided reuse of an important historical building in town and planted the seeds for a art renaissance in Maynard that culminated in 2016 with the Massachusetts Cultural District designation.
