[ARCHIVED] Blasting for new Green Meadow School expected

GMES new school concept wide March 2023

The town's project to construct a new Green Meadow School is underway, and is currently in the site preparation phase.

The contractor Maine Drilling & Blasting was selected to conduct the rock drilling and blasting operation for the Green Meadow Elementary School. The blasting is planned to commence the week of September 23, 2024 or shortly thereafter. A code of blasting signals for project employees, audible for greater than 250’ from the blast site is listed below.

WARNING SIGNAL: Three long blasts five minutes prior to blast signal

BLAST SIGNAL: Two blasts one minute prior to the shot

ALL CLEAR SIGNAL: A prolonged blast following an inspection of the blast area

The signal may be audible to neighboring residents or the public. The site will be posted with well-marked, highly visible signs that detail the warning signal sequence sounded prior to each blast. All blasting will be conducted between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm Monday-Friday and no explosives will be stored at the site overnight.

If you happen to be in the vicinity during the initiation of a blast, you may experience low levels of ground vibration. Rest assured, we strive to minimize the amplitude of each blast and use the most advanced technologies available to the blasting industry to both measure and minimize the seismic effect to the area. All blasts will be covered with blasting mats to prevent any material from leaving the blast site.
