[ARCHIVED] Hydrant Flushing south of Great Rd

area of hydrant flushing2_4_25

Please be aware that the Department of Public Works, Water and Sewer Division has been tracking reports of discoloration in households in the vicinity of the Old Marlborough Road Water Treatment Plant. This discoloration is excessive organic material that is not able to be removed because it is beyond the level of our plant’s design capability. The utility’s interim remediation operation requires hydrant flushing to reduce discoloration. Based on today's temperatures (2/4/2025), we are doing isolated hydrant flushing in the areas of where we have received reports. This will cause the residents south of Great Rd to experience discolored water temporarily. We do not recommend anyone in the area below do laundry until the hydrant flushing is complete. We will continue to evaluate this condition throughout the winter months and flush when temperatures allow. Thank you for your patience as your utility works to continually address the degradation of the water treatment plants capabilities.
