CUSTOMER FILTER REBATE PROGRAM
*The program is currently at capacity but we encourage you to follow step 1 to get on our waitlist*
Customers who are experiencing discolored water on a regular basis and are within the affected zone can apply for a rebate towards the purchase and installation of a filtration system. The rebates will be up to $500 for a point of use (one appliance) system or up to $2000 for a point of entry (whole house) system. This will allow homeowners in the affected zone to improve water quality while the Town of Maynard continues to pursue long term capital treatment plant improvements. Rebates will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible applicants who are prequalified for the rebate. The rebates will continue to be distributed until the $100,000 in program funds are exhausted. Homeowners must submit the final documentation within 6 months of receiving eligibility approval from DPW Staff in order to obtain the rebate. Step by step instructions with more details can be found below.

THE STEP BY STEP PROCESS IS AS FOLLOWS:
*Please note that existing systems are not qualified for this rebate*
- The Homeowner must submit a request for an eligibility form in person or online here: ELIGIBILITY FORM. The form will ask for your name, address and contact information only. You do not need to know what type of filter you would like to install until step 2. If you would like to submit in person please come to the DPW and the office will provide you an in person form.
- Staff will review and let you know if you are located in the eligible area. If you are not this list of eligible lots but believe you should be eligible, please call 978-897-1317
- You are not committed to anything by requesting eligibility and may remove your name at any time.
- This step will set aside your funds while we review eligibility. This program first comes first serve, requesting eligibility in person or online will not change your status in line. The in-person forms will be timed stamped.
- Once eligibility is approved, you will receive a notice to proceed to step 2.
- You will be disqualified for the following:
- Not a Homeowner, this includes tenants or contractors.
- Not in good standing: all water/sewer must be paid off
- Apartment complexes more than 25 people or 4 units or more.
- Please note that multi-family complexes under 4 units will be allowed to apply for this rebate. If there is only one service line for the entire complex, you must apply for a point of entry system.
- After receiving a notice to proceed to step 2, you will need to choose your filtration system and submit the filtration approval form in person or online here: APPROVAL FORM.
- This program is prequalified systems only - existing systems that are already installed will be disqualified
- We are offering rebates of up to $500 for Point of Use and up to $2000 for point of entry. While we do not recommend one company over another, we do require your filtration system to be National Sanitation Foundation Certified or NSF. Please follow this link to look up the system you may be interested in: NSF Website - Water filter lookup
- Point of Use vs Point of Entry
- Point of use is a smaller system usually consisting of only one canister that can be put under your sink or on a specific appliance. If you are only concerned about ONE appliance, this is a good option for you.
- Point of Entry is a larger system usually consisting of multiple canisters that is placed on the water service coming into your home. This will allow treated water to every appliance in the home
- If all you are concerned about is the occasional discoloration, ensure the filtration system you choose has nominal particulate reduction. We recommend homeowners test their water through DEP certified lab in order to guide your choice of system. Reverse Osmosis systems or any systems that may require backflow devices to prevent cross connections will be disqualified from this rebate program.
- Once your program eligibility and NSF Certified filtration system has been verified and formally approved by water dept, your licensed plumber must apply for a plumbing permit. More information on plumbing permits can be found on the inspection division website. Licensed plumbers can apply in person or online
- Permit will be reviewed by local plumbing inspector
Plumber coordinates with local inspector for final inspection of filtration system through an in person visit and signs of that work meets plumbing code.
- Homeowners must then submit the following documentation in person within 6 months of receiving eligibility approval from DPW Staff:
- Final approved plumbing permit
- Picture of the final system installed in the home
- Detailed Invoice from plumber including cost of system and installation fees
- We will not accept handwritten invoices (even on printed letterhead) or cash receipts as proof of payment
- Proof of payment through a credit card statement or a copy of the cashed check front and back. We recommend the homeowner black out their account number, routing number and any other sensitive information.
- DPW will send the homeowner confirmation via their preferred method of communication when the final step is complete
- The Homeowner will see the credit of the qualified amount on the water/sewer bill. Please be reminded that the billing is quarterly.
