Historic House Plaque Program

The Historic House Plaque program is a wonderful opportunity for owners of historic or architecturally significant houses celebrate the history of their home.   Plaques enhance the appearance of all homes while promoting community awareness of our local history.

The goal of the Historic House Plaque program is to allow passersby a glimpse into the history of a home, property or neighborhood.

We want to celebrate the history of any home in Maynard.  Whether its 50 years old or 200, we can always find some fantastic history for you and your neighbors to admire.  

If you’re interested in submitting your home for a plaque to be considered by the Historical Commission, it’s as easy as filling out the form below.

We are here to help!  We can research your home to confirm the information you have provided and even give you some insight into additional information.  Reference materials are available at the Maynard Public Library (in Special Collections) to assist homeowners in researching their house history and preparing the house plaque application form.  You can also check for your home on https://mhc-macris.net/

So what happens next?  After you submit your information, the Commission will meet to review your request.  Once it is approved and you have signed your acceptance of the text to be displayed on the plaque, we will place the order with Sign Logic.  The cost of the plaque is $135 and is payable directly to the vendor.

Our policy is to include on each plaque the year or circa year of construction and one of the following: Built by, Built for, Home of, Original owner, or Historic Property name. 

A maximum of two lines of text will be approved for each plaque. All house plaques will be the same size and shape (12 x 9" with a horizontal orientation) with black text on a white background. Circa dates will be used where appropriate. Because this is a historical program, the names of the current owners may not be used.

Sign Logics of Hudson will provide the artistry for the plaques, using a weather-resistant composite base intended for outside use. Holes are pre-drilled for easy installation. All we ask from you is to install your plaque on a part of your home that can be viewed by the public and then general ongoing maintenance of the sign.
