To comply with state law, adopted by the town in March 2018, in which Town Meeting voters accepted the provisions of G.L. c. 60, Section 3D to establish a Disabled and Elderly Taxation Relief Fund for the purpose of, “defraying the real estate taxes of elderly and disabled persons of low income, who in the judgement of the funds administrators, are unable to contribute fully toward their public charges”.
On June 17, 2025, the Maynard Select Board approved the charge of a Taxation Aid Committee to "adopt rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of an elderly and disabled taxation fund program and to identify the recipients of the aid provided by taxpayers through this program.”
The law describes a program that allows taxpayers to voluntarily donate an amount of money in conjunction with their municipal tax bills or motor vehicle excise tax bills, toward an elderly and disabled taxation fund for the purpose of defraying the real estate taxes of elderly and disabled persons of low income. The amounts are then deposited into a special account in the Town's treasury.
